As part of its continuing but unsuccessful campaign to pressure Kingspan to agree to its demands to deal with it, the SMART labor union has alleged that unidentified employees at Kingspan’s insulated metal panel (IMP) facility in Modesto, California, have been instructed by unidentified supervisors to cover hollow areas of panels by inserting a small piece of foam and then sanding the inserted piece to make it look like one continuous piece.
The document provides only one specific – a photograph from 2023 of several IMPs with some hollow ends.
Kingspan is aware of the products in that photograph. In accordance with quality control procedures, the panels were identified by quality control, pulled from the manufacturing process, and never shipped.
The SMART labor union is uninformed and conspicuously does not mention this action. In fact, the document includes a purported quote from an unidentified employee who admits not knowing what was done with the product.
Additionally, the document conspicuously does not mention the quality control processes that prevent a panel that does not conform to specifications to be shipped.
The SMART labor union’s allegation is FALSE.
